This is the Silva Ranger multifunctional headtorch and made by Silva, you know it will be a quality item. The torch body is made from a tough, durable plastic and the torch itself has many useful features. The LEDs consist of four white and one red which can be operated separately, so it is perfect for miltary use, ie nightime map reading without loss of night vision. The four white LEDs, which emit 34 lumens of light, have three main settings, bright, intermediate or low and in addition, both the red and white LEDs have an independent flashing mode. With the red LEDs, it is ideal for military use and where personal night vision needs to be optimal.
Power comes from a single AA battery, which is supplied and is inserted by turning a dial on the torch side. Usefully, the headtorch will tilt up or down and is kept secured on the head by a very good quality, adjustable elasticated headband. The on-off switch has that reassuring feel of a quality switch, one of the points that let down cheaper headtorches. Furthermore, the torch is waterproof to IPX7 ie. down to 1 metre for 30 mins. There are obviously cheaper headtorches to buy, but in terms of quality, features, reliability and performance, we have yet to find better for the money. You will not regret buying this headtorch.
